The Hacienda „Zoilita“ is located in the north of the province Los Ríos in Ecuador. It was established 40 years ago with all of the planted trees being present until today. The Hacienda Zoilita therefor consists to 100% of the native Nacional Arriba cocoa trees. Modern hybrids are not brought into the farm. The idea is to preserve the precious quality of the pure Nacional Arriba variety in Ecuador which has become very rare nowadays.
The size of the Hacienda Zoilita is 220 hectares. On 160 hectares of this area cocoa trees are grown, the rest is used for the production of teak and papaya. The Arriba Nacional is harvested in two periods:
The winter harvest in the rainy season (until april) and the summer harvest (September – December)
